The new SCORPION MX32 MID SOFT will make its official debut in the next Motocross World Championship equipping the bikes of some of the greatest riders of this Championship and, like all Pirelli racing tyres, will also be available for purchase by all motorcycle fans of this discipline.

The new SCORPION MX32 MID SOFT uses a new technology that allows to have on the sidewalls high-contrast lettering for better readability and, in the case of the new motocross tyre, on the sidewall there is also a yellow Pirelli label to allow the product to be identified very quickly on the racetrack.

The fourth generation of Pirelli DIABLO Supercorsa tyres, both in the SP racing street version and SC option (available in different compounds and designed for track use), is successfully completing final stages of development and testing and it will be available to the public from the start of 2023. Compared to its predecessor, the DIABLO Supercorsa V4 is completely renewed in terms of tread design, compounds, structures and profiles. 

DIABLO Supercorsa was created thanks to the experience of Pirelli in the FIM Superbike World Championship, which since 2004 has partnered with the Italian tyre company as its sole supplier. After having launched in 2005 the DIABLO Superbike slick tyre for exclusive use on the track and designed for the maximum competition of derived from the series, in 2007 Pirelli presented the racing tyre DIABLO Supercorsa SC, which was followed in 2008 by the SP (Sport Production).

Over time, THE DIABLO Supercorsa SP has become the reference supersport tyre for riders looking to get the maximum out of their high-performance machines without needing to carry an extra set of tyre when they hit the track…

Pirelli say their moto is “We sell what we race, we race what we sell” to indicate how the same tyres used by professional riders can be purchased by all motorcyclists. To date, DIABLO Supercorsa SP remains one of the best and most direct example of technological transfer from the track to the road among Pirelli tyres, since it shares the profiles and many materials and technologies used for the structure with the SC version.

But unlike the SC version, which uses full racing compounds, the SP adopts a dual compound solution, with a racing compound on the shoulders and a road compound in the central band, to meet road requirements. The SC version, available in different compounds designed to adapt to different asphalt conditions and temperatures, remains a great choice for professional, semi-professional or trackday enthusiasts who want a treaded tyre capable of offering maximum performance on the track.

The new hoops benefit from higher grip in dry conditions, thanks to a slicker tread design that guarantees a larger footprint area alongside the use of innovative compounds that increase mechanical grip levels. The innovative technologies applied to the carcass make DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa able to adhere to the micro-roughness of the asphalt, ensuring precise feedback and a feeling of control.

Performance consistency over multiple riding sessions is made possible by the characteristics of the tread pattern, the repetition of the grooves offers high resistance to stress and the new arrangement of the compounds, ensures optimal thermal balance.

The tread design of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a calculated repetition of the central grooves and a slicker shoulder area, for a fill ratio 25% lower than the DIABLO ROSSO IV. In the central area, the longitudinal grooves ensures directional stability and water evacuation. Their position helps to evenly wear the tyres, while increasing the structural stability of the tyre to give performance consistency over multiple riding sessions.

The front tyre is divided into three areas using two different compounds. The central band has a Full Silica compound that occupies around 45% of the section width and is present in the contact area used up to 25 degrees of lean angle.

The side areas have a softer compound, also Full Silica, thanks to the use of innovative resins that offer excellent grip and improves the front tyre feedback. The rear tyre also has a bi-compound scheme for excellent road performance and works in harmony with the front. The central Full Silica compound allows for a quick warm-up and excellent chemical grip on different surface conditions.

The shoulder compound is 100% Carbon Black and derives directly from the compounds of DIABLO Supercorsa SC used in racing competitions. Pirelli say this compound offers support at full lean and traction during acceleration managing the torque generated by the latest generation superbikes.

The profiles of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are race-derived and are characterised by a multi radius design that improves the tyre’s handling. The central area has a sharper profile to facilitate immediate lean and rapid change of direction. In the lateral areas, Pirelli say the profile curvature is less accentuated in order to increase the contact area and ensure maximum traction when cornering. Both front and rear tyres follow a similar profile design, ensuring a perfectly balanced and neutral behaviour.

With the DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa, Pirelli uses a racing-derived structure with zero-degree steel belt, this manages to adapt perfectly to different levels of stress without compromising comfort and work with advanced electronic control systems. The stiff cord technology features structural cords that are more rigid and are distributed with less density (-20%) compared to a standard sport tyre. This scheme leaves more room for the rubber compound, which improves riding feeling and precision thanks to its damping properties, thus transmitting to the rider, a safety feeling and control of the motorcycle.

The latest in Pirelli technology has landed in Australia, the Diablo Rosso IV tyres.The tread pattern design of the Diablo Rosso IV features slicker mid-lean areas. This is an evolution of the Diablo Rosso III, giving support at lean angles where water drainage is useless (over 35°). This means a large slick area on the shoulders, which results in excellent grip and line holding while cornering at extreme lean angles. 

The Diablo Rosso IV tread pattern is developed around the Flash icon which is synonymous with all Pirelli sport tyres. Flash features two prominent centre grooves providing directional stability and ensuring wear stability. They also provide water drainage from the centre out for the contact patch when upright. Flash tails of varying lengths are distributed around the centre design, outlining the mid-lean grooves. These tails are an important element for the tyre’s behaviour, providing the right tyre flexibility, efficient water evacuation and wear uniformity.

The Rosso IV boasts a Silica-enriched, multi-compound in both the front and rear tyres, combined with WSBK-derived structures and contours. Pirelli has spared no expense in development, this is demonstrated in the confidence that the Rosso IV inspires. It offers superb grip under braking, thrust boost in extreme lean angles and brilliant traction when powering out of corners.

The hard layer on the front tyre delivers outstanding grip in cold and wet conditions. The softer side layer (accessed when in lean angles over 35°) offers excellent grip and delivers a brilliant contact feeling. The new Diablo Rosso IV’ has increased the Rayon cord stiffness, obtained through a larger section of more twisted strands, adapted along the contour, which differentiates stiffness depending on the lean angle. Combined this gives the rider the option to adjust the trajectory while cornering or to delay braking ahead of entering into lean.

The dual-compound rear up to 195/50 r17 features a Rayon 2-wire strand structure. The chord stiffness has been raised by more than 30 per cent over the Diablo Rosso III, reducing the end-count freeing up the space available for the compound to perform. The full silica dual compound rear offers a quick warm-up and a significant grip level irrespective of lean angle, even in wet conditions. In relation to the dimension of the tyre, and therefore of the contact patch, a dual compound with more continuity ensures the best stress distribution and wear uniformity.

This endurance-racing compound features a 5-zone layout, which trades wet grip on high lean angles for thrust boost to cope with the extreme cornering speed and the astonishing engine outputs of modern performance motorcycles. It features a 3-wire strand Lyocell structure which translates to a deformation ratio considerably lower than usual street tyres. The soft full silica mid-rubber strip ensures performance, whilst delivering a safe sporty ride across all weather conditions.

For those who have ridden a motorcycle with racing slicks, the first few minutes fresh off the tyre warmers can be quite sketchy unless you push immediately to make sure you don’t lose temperature, as racing slicks only operate properly within a very narrow temperature and pressure operating range.

You wouldn’t dare leave the pits on stone cold slicks if you want to finish lap around the track still on your bike. Metzeler, however, have found a way to eliminate the use of tyre warmers to keep the costs down and track days easier by having a broader operating range, with these essentially replacing the RACETEC INTERACT K3 from previous years, the hardest race slick from Metzeler.

The secret is comes from the TD SLICK featuring a racing compound that includes polymers with a low glass transition temperature, carbon black and high melting temperature resins. METZELER engineers have designed a compound capable of operating in a wide range of temperatures and asphalt conditions, in order to offer consistency in performance and resistance to cold tearing.

The exclusive patented CCM process – Compound Continuous Mixing process – maximises the homogeneity of the components in the polymetric matrix and allows the tyre to consistently offer high performances, from the first to the last lap, even if divided between several thermal cycles.

Thanks to this set-up, track day fans can get all the performance they can dream of out of their bike without needing to spend thousands on bike stands, climate controlled storage and tyre warmers. Riders can just kick their stand up, warm the tyres up slightly and apply maximum throttle.

Strengthened by the experience accumulated in road racing such as the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man, used as a testing ground to test the versatility of its products, Metzeler engineers have designed a compound capable of operating in a wide range of temperatures and asphalt conditions, offering consistency in performance and resistance to cold tearing.

Metzeler have kept the sizing simple by providing the most common rear sizes, so you don’t have to muck around with changing the rear setup. The Genuine rear sizes allow a smoother transition from OEM tyres geometries to professional racing tyres, and helps the rider skip some of the setup variables a professional racer is required to manage

Everything about the TD SLICK has had value for money in mind, rear sizes feature a symmetric structure and seamless construction layers avoiding the junctions, which are sensitive to the stress direction.
