With six rounds over three weekends, the Yamaha Blu Cru Aussie Flat Track Nationals is set to fire into life on July 27 – 28 at the Macarthur Motorcycle Complex in Appin, NSW. Tickets for Adults and kids over 16 cost $20 and tickets for Kids aged 16 to 6 are just $10, while Kids under 6 get free entry. There are Family passes for Two Adults and Two Kids for $50. Entry info for competitors can be found here. 

AFTN race weekends consist of two separate rounds of racing, with Round 1 on Saturday using a Flat Track layout with the always impressive Pro Twins, while Sundays Round 2 will see competitors take to the TT Circuit at the same venue.

Practice and qualifying kicks off at 9am on Saturday July 27, with Pro 450 Superpole at 10:45am followed by racing from 11a,. There are four races of 6 to 15 laps for each class, with podium presentations at 3:45pm.

Janisch came into the final weekend with a nine-point lead , knowing how quickly that lead could disappear. His win in the Friday race along with a sixth-place finish by Texter meant that on Saturday, he needed to qualify for the Main event and get at least five points to secure the championship. His eighth-place performance was enough to put him in the series lead, even with the race win going to the veteran Texter. 

Janisch joined the Vance & Hines AFT team with six races remaining in the 2021 season. He rewarded his sponsors with five top-four finishes and a win in Charlotte last year. He was named to the 2022 Vance & Hines team in February.  

“What an awesome year,” said Vance & Hines Team Manager Craig Koontz. “Jesse is a great rider and a great team member. He trusts us to give him a fast bike and he goes out and does great things with it.”

“I have a reputation for being a great rider on TT tracks, but this year, winning three half miles, two miles and two TT’s, I think I proved that I can compete no matter what track I’m on,” said Janisch. “I love my team from Vance & Hines. They never pressured me, just gave me great equipment and allowed me to go out and race. Next week I’m driving to Indy and buying pizza for the whole Vance & Hines crew.” 

Vance & Hines is the only organization designated to produce the Harley-Davidson XG750R race-only motorcycle, a turnkey solution for riders wishing to compete in AFT’s Production Twins racing. In 2022, Vance & Hines was a presenting sponsor of AFT’s Production Twins class and offered a contingency sponsorship program that made nearly $100,000 in prize money available to racers.

The two-round, two-day inaugural AFTN has been designed to give riders and spectators alike an opportunity to understand what the series is about before heading into a larger scale multi-state series in 2023.

Each AFTN race day will consist of practice, qualifying and five races per class, varying in length from six to fifteen laps. The format has been carefully considered to offer competitors not only great track time, but also a point-score style tally where the points earned in each race count for not only the round results but the overall championship, giving riders the opportunity to chase their championship down if they have a bad race.

This fifth and final round of the 2021 DRTA season culminated in a unique TT circuit at Greenfield Dirt Track, Lincolnshire. With an additional right-hand turn and a jump incorporated into the track, it was all to play for going into the final round of the season.

With Royal Enfield’s principal rider, Gary Birtwistle having his season cut short with a broken scaphoid bone in his wrist (after having won all of the first three races), it all came down to teammate Paul Young to secure the Championship Crown for the Royal Enfield Team. Relatively new to flat track, but with years of GP2 racing experience under his belt, Paul flew through the qualifying heats and found himself at the front of the grid heading into the final.

While being pushed hard all the way to the final lap, the chequered flag and the 2021 Championship Crown was destined to be claimed by Paul and Royal Enfield. The result marked Royal Enfield’s first “factory” European Championship win since the legendary Johnny Brittain won the ACU Star at the National Trials Championship back in 1956. After a hiatus of 65 years, this marks an exciting new milestone for Royal Enfield as it further develops its footing in the world of competitive racing.

Both Championships, which were to be held at Mick Doohan Raceway, Banyo, Queensland had been rescheduled earlier this year due to COVID-19, but with the ongoing border restrictions and no clarity provided by State Governments around the timing for the opening of state borders, the tough decision to cancel both Championship events has been made. The championships will hopefully be back in 2022, when lockdowns are lifted and riders can travel inter-state once again.

Motorcycling Australia say they support the decision of the North Brisbane Junior MCC as with State border restrictions it makes it impossible for interstate riders and teams, officials and fans to attend the Championships. We hope to see the racing back on track again!
