Responding to the dynamic demands of the local events calendar and the request of the township of Jerez de la Frontera, the FIM and Dorna WorldSBK have agreed to delay this year’s curtain closing event by one week.

In a bold step towards inclusivity and diversity in motorsport, the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) debuts in 2024, reflecting a broader vision and commitment to fostering the growth of women in circuit racing.

The WorldWCR is a groundbreaking initiative designed to maximise the opportunities and potential of young female riders, providing them with a global platform to showcase their skills, as emerging international talent will have the chance to compete under the same conditions as the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, with six rounds running alongside WorldSBK events.

The FIM MiniGP World Series is the first step on the Road to MotoGP, designed to create an equal platform for young riders worldwide. Japan is already a vital presence in the motorcycle market and in motorcycle racing, and the FIM MiniGP Japan Series will ensure an economically viable and equal environment for young riders looking to begin their careers in racing.

The former Moto3 Junior class will also share its new name and identity with the series as a whole. As per the FIM MotoGP World Championship, the FIM JuniorGP now takes its name from the most prominent competition (world level) within it, which is the Moto3 category in the case of JuniorGP. The Hawkers European Talent Cup and the Moto2 European Championship, including the Superstock category, retain their denominations under the umbrella of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship.  

The series also gains a new identity as part of this new era, with a new logo for the Moto3 category – also shared with the Championship. The Hawkers European Talent Cup and the Moto2 European Championship also begin this new chapter with a fresh identity for each.

Over nearly a quarter of a century, JuniorGP has played a key role in the recognition and development of riders who have gone on to set records, including eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez, 2020 MotoGP Champion Joan Mir and 2021 MotoGP Champion Fabio Quartararo.

More than 80% of Grand Prix riders have passed through the series on their Road to MotoGP, rising to over 90% for the Moto3 grid. With its new name and identity, the FIM JuniorGP World Championship will continue fostering talent as its 25th year begins.

2021 FIM MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) and 2020 Champion Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) were two key headliners at the event as they received their medals, celebrating the last two years of incredible MotoGP action and a first premier class title for each of them.

They were joined by 2021 FIM Moto2 World Champion Remy Gardner (Red Bull KTM Ajo), 2020 Moto2 Champion Enea Bastianini (Avintia Esponsorama), 2021 FIM Moto3 World Champion Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo); the rookie history maker, and 2020 Moto3 Champion Albert Arenas (Aspar Team) – uniting quite a gallery of Champions from the MotoGP paddock.

Amongst the many others present were WorldSBK sensation Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, who took a stunning first WorldSBK crown in 2021, as well as 2020 and 2021 FIM Moto3 Junior World Champions Daniel Holgado and Izan Guevara. Holgado receives his medal ahead of his full-time debut in Moto3 on the world stage next season, where Guevara has already impressed to become a Grand Prix winner this year.

That’s a wrap on the final event of the season for those toasted on stage, with winter break now truly underway as we wait for the roaring engines to return at Sepang International Circuit for the Shakedown Test. There, Gardner will be the first back out as he takes part as a MotoGP rookie, before a few days later the likes of Quartararo, Mir and Bastianini suit up to begin their campaigns.
